As the Mahayuti alliance wins a historic victory in the recent Maharashtra assembly elections, a political storm has been sparked. Political dynamics are expected to drastically change as pressure mounts on the BJP to select between Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde for the position of chief minister.
Two days after the ruling Mahayuti alliance recorded a historic victory in the assembly elections, gaining 235 seats in the 288-member house, the race to become Maharashtra's next chief minister is still up in the air.
Alliance partners are under pressure to choose between BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and incumbent chief minister Eknath Shinde as the next chief minister after the results were announced on November 23.
The BJP, which secured a record 132 of its 235 seats, spearheaded the Mahayuti's comeback, has remained silent thus far. MLAs, however, put pressure on the saffron party because they wanted the chief minister to be a member of the party. According to reports, a number of MLAs recommended Devendra Fadnavis, who is currently the Deputy Chief Minister, for the position.
