A tigress named Zeenat was released from her soft enclosure on Sunday into the central region of Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha, which is a significant step towards preserving healthy tiger populations in the state.
The Similipal Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF) verified that the release, which occurred at 9:30 PM, was successful.
According to Prakash Chandra Gogineni, Director of the Similipal Tiger Project, Zeenat, who is currently being watched around-the-clock, is wandering around five meters from the enclosure in the jungle.
On November 15, the tigress was first transported from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra, where she spent ten days in a soft enclosure. Despite remaining a little agitated for the first two days, Zeenat quickly adjusted, according to Nayak.
The tigress even hunted prey while she was in the enclosure and stayed healthy. The tigress was approved for introduction to the Northern Division of the Similipal Tiger Reserve's core area after being examined by the STR veterinary team.
At approximately four o'clock yesterday evening, we unlocked the gates to her enclosure. Despite being a timid tigress, she emerged from the cage at approximately 9:30 p.m. We have three teams that work different shifts and are in charge of keeping an eye on her," Nayak said.
Zeenat wears a radio collar with satellite-sensing technology to help with her monitoring, according to the STR director.
