The Supreme Court denies a request to switch back to ballots, saying that "EVMs are not tampered with when you win election."

A petition to return to ballot paper voting in the nation's elections was denied by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

"Electronic voting machines, or EVMs, are not tampered with after you win the election. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and P B Varale said, "EVMs are tampered (with) when you lose the election."

In addition to ballot paper voting, the plea asked the Election Commission to ban candidates for at least five years if they were found guilty of giving voters cash, alcohol, or any other tangible inducement at the polls.

The bench remarked, "You have interesting PILs," after petitioner-in-person K A Paul stated that he had filed the PIL. "How do you come up with these amazing ideas?"
