According to sources who spoke to IANS on Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board will convene virtually on Friday, November 29, to determine the schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have not yet finalized the schedule for the event next year because India has declined to travel to Pakistan for the prestigious tournament.
The Champions Trophy 2025 will be hosted by PCB, which is determined to hold the competition entirely. India's refusal to cross the border to play in Pakistan means that a "hybrid model" will probably be used to host the tournament.
After India declined to travel, Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup last year using a hybrid format. All of India's tournament matches, including the semifinal and final, were played in Colombo.
PCB wrote to the international organization earlier this month to request information and clarification on the BCCI's decision, which was shared with the sport's World governing body.
Along with the date on which it formally notified the ICC of its stance, the PCB has requested a written response from the BCCI. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence in hosting the first ICC event in Pakistan since 1996, despite the tournament's continued uncertainty.
"We sent the questions we had to ICC. We have yet to receive a response from them. Politics and sports, in my opinion, should not be combined in any nation. At a press conference at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Naqvi had stated, "Even now, I still have positive expectations about the Champions Trophy."
After the BCCI complained to the ICC that the tournament's trophy tour was going through three cities in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the PCB was forced to make changes.
Last week, the PCB first revealed a route that included two other cities in the area as well as Muzaffarabad, the capital of PoK. It hasn't been formally canceled, but the destinations were taken out after BCCI complained. After touring the other seven Champions Trophy competitors, the Trophy Tour will make its way back to Pakistan in January.
