According to Simon Wong, Singapore's High Commissioner to India, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will travel to Odisha as part of his scheduled state visit to India in January 2025.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi met with Wong at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar today, where the High Commissioner formally communicated the specifics of the Singapore president's visit to the state, the Odisha government said in a press statement on Tuesday.
According to the press release, Singapore will also be the first nation to cooperate with Utkarsh Odisha for the 2025 Make In Odisha Conclave.
Notably, CM Majhi, during his visit to Singapore last month requested the presence of the island country’s president in Odisha, which has now been accepted.
President Shanmugaratnam is expected to arrive in India next month to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relationship between the two nations. As such, Odisha is the only state outside New Delhi that the Singapore premier will be visiting.
The official release further added that during the discussion, Wong expressed that 'Singapore sees a huge opportunity for strengthening a business partnership with Odisha with sectors of interest like petrochemicals, green energy, and skills'.
The dates of the 2025 Make in Odisha Conclave are set for January 28 and 29, 2025, in Bhubaneswar. The mega-event seeks to increase the state's financial strength and establish it as a major location for both domestic and international investments.
