Newly developed low pressure over the Gangetic West Bengal led to heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Odisha.

A new Low Pressure Area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand due to the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh and the region. According to the most recent reports, Odisha is expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall due to the new cyclonic circulation.

The associated cyclonic circulation, according to IMD reports, stretches up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. Over the next 24 hours, it is expected to move west-northwestward and intensify.

Over the next few days, Odisha will be affected by the system, with many parts of the state anticipating heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Heavy rain is predicted for both today and tomorrow. In addition to Odisha, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is also expected in east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.

Even so, he expressed optimism that there won’t be any floods in Odisha, saying, “Northern Odisha has recorded deficit rainfall, even though many places are expected to receive 20 centimetres of rain.” Thus, the likelihood of a flood is low.
