localization is the main focus of the ministrys industry consultation on the distribution of etruck subsidies

To decide how best to distribute its ₹500 crore subsidy outlay for e-trucks under the PM E-drive scheme, the ministry of heavy industries held an industry consultation in the nation's capital on Thursday. Determining per-vehicle subsidies, establishing goals for the deployment of e-trucks over the following two years, and developing a plan for the localization of domestic manufacturing were the main topics of discussion.

Speaking to business executives, Kamran Rizvi, secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), underlined the ministry's resolve to implement localization standards through a phased manufacturing program (PMP), which will be created after thorough stakeholder consultations and industry surveys.

The ministry of heavy industries is tackling a subject like trucking because its divisions are responsible for increasing the country's capacity for manufacturing. Noting the goal of lowering dependency on imported materials and keeping India from turning into an assembly line, Rizvi stated, "We shouldn't be perceived as importing material from our neighbors and turning India into an assembly shop."

Rizvi stated that the program will be strictly implemented, but he was disappointed by some industry suggestions about localization timelines.

"The country's present manufacturing capacity will be evaluated by the phased manufacturing program (PMP)."and most likely requires a more thorough discussion with our component manufacturers," he stated, adding that the new PMP would be useful. "The phased manufacturing program will not disqualify a serious manufacturer. However, failure to follow the phased manufacturing program will be taken seriously, Rizvi stated.
