Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the achievements and importance of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) Yojana, a central government flagship initiative aimed at uplifting tribal communities across the nation, particularly marginalized sections of society, on the 150th anniversary of the birth of freedom fighter Birsa Munda.
Speaking at a program in Jamui, Bihar, on Friday, the prime minister also hailed President Droupadi Murmu as India's first tribal president, describing it as a historic moment for the NDA and attributing to her the advancement of tribal welfare.
"The current NDA government has a different criterion when it comes to social justice and culture. I think the BJP and NDA are very fortunate to have had the chance to install Droupadi Murmu as India's president. The Prime Minister also praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his aggressive campaigning for her presidency during the election.
As the PM-JANMAN Yojana entered its one-year mark, PM Modi credited President Murmu's leadership and support of the tribal community for its accomplishments.
"The plan is designed to help the most disadvantaged tribes in the tribal community overcome their problems. The Prime Minister stated, "The program's projects include housing, roads, healthcare, and education to transform tribal villages."
He pointed out the NDA's efforts to close the gap and criticized earlier administrations for ignoring the most disadvantaged segments of the tribal population.
"When she (Droupadi Murmu) was the Governor of Jharkhand and later became the President, she mentioned extremely backward people among the tribal community," he stated.
According to PM Modi, the NDA's emphasis on inclusive development and the empowerment of tribal communities is demonstrated by the PM JANMAN Yojana and the acknowledgment of President Murmu's contributions.
According to him, this is in line with the commemoration of Birsa Munda, a symbol of tribal pride and resistance, and it demonstrates the government's attempts to honor and elevate marginalized groups in a way that is both culturally and historically significant.
"Under the PM Janman Yojana, we have allotted Rs 24,000 crore with the goal of enhancing the quality of life for extremely underdeveloped tribal communities. Following the completion of this flagship program's first year, thousands of homes have been given to tribal families, roads have started to be built to connect distant tribal villages, and households in tribal areas are now receiving potable tap water directly, PM Modi stated.
In order to address historical omissions and emphasize tribal contributions, he declared that the 150th anniversary of Birsa Munda's birth would be celebrated over the course of the following year.
