The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been a spectacle of competitive cricket, electrifying fans with edge-of-the-seat thrillers and stunning turnarounds. But beyond the action on the field, the tournament's calendar has thrown up an unusual twist.
This week, cricket followers were surprised to find two matches scheduled on a Tuesday, April 8, a departure from the IPL's usual weekday pattern of a single match.
In contrast, the previous Sunday, typically reserved for double-headers, featured just one game. The reason for this shift? A mix of festivity and administrative foresight.
The root of this scheduling quirk lies in the rescheduling of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) match. Initially slated for Sunday, April 6 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the game was moved to Tuesday, April 8.
Local authorities, particularly the Kolkata Police, had raised concerns about their capacity to provide adequate security due to Ram Navami celebrations. With large processions and gatherings expected across the city, police resources were stretched thin.
Responding to this, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), in consultation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), decided to defer the fixture by two days.

Unusual double-header on a weekday
This change meant that Sunday, April 6, saw only one match played—Sunrisers Hyderabad versus Gujarat Titans—instead of the usual double-header format.
Meanwhile, April 8 became an exception with two matches: the rescheduled KKR vs LSG clash at 3:30 pm and the originally planned Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) game at 7:30 pm. Weekday double-headers are rare in the IPL, making this development stand out.
While fans may have missed out on a classic Sunday double-header, they were rewarded with a rare mid-week twin treat.
