Electric vehicle (EV) sales have skyrocketed in the nation, and the world is rapidly shifting to green energy. However, after one of these hybrid cars caught fire on the Trishulia bridge in Cuttack on Saturday, worries about the safety of electric vehicles are now being raised.
It is believed that the electric scooter caught fire this morning while the rider was traveling to Cuttack.
The electric vehicle was reduced to ashes in the fire accident, but the rider was unharmed. It's not immediately clear what caused the fire. It is believed that an electric short circuit may have caused the incident.
Residents claim that while the manufacturers of electric vehicles seem to be in a competitive mode and are developing new models that promise comfort and increased mileage, a number of safety features seem to be overlooked.
Similar incidents have been reported from other parts of Odisha and other states in the country, so today's fire incident is nothing new.
According to locals, the current price range for an electric vehicle is between Rs 1 and Rs 1.5 lakh.
“We are switching to electric vehicles so that our dependency on petrol and diesel vehicles is reduced which is crucial in protecting our environment. But after regular incidents of electric vehicles catching fire is certainly concerning, “ said a local resident.
