Google introduces a new AI function to address Indias air pollution.

Tech giant Google on Wednesday introduced Air View+, an AI-based solution that can provide the government and citizens with helpful hyperlocal air quality information, in an effort to address India's growing air pollution problems.

Google AI powers Air View+, which collaborates with regional climate tech companies. This can make it possible for local sustainability startups, researchers, climate action groups, corporations, city officials, and citizens to access real-time hyperlocal air quality information.
In a blog post, Google stated that the ecosystem can offer "valuable air quality insights to government agencies responsible for environmental monitoring and urban planning."

Additionally, it will offer "users throughout India real-time hyperlocal air quality information in Google Maps," it stated.
By providing hyperlocal air quality data for their cities, Air View+ enables local municipal corporations. Through the researchers and sustainability partners, this can be utilized to create their internal AQ dashboards.

According to Google, "these dashboards help urban planners identify hotspots and make necessary interventions by providing air quality data for unmonitored areas."

Last year, a pilot run was conducted to test the capabilities of Air View+. The collaborations with local government entities such as Navi Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Greater Chennai have produced incredibly positive outcomes.

We produce dynamic hyperlocal Air Quality Index (AQI) at a granular level using a multi-layered AI fusion approach that integrates data from multiple input sources, such as the sensor network, government data, satellite imagery, weather and wind patterns, traffic conditions, land cover, and more. In accordance with the National Air Quality Index (NAQI) methodology, classification, and guidelines, we have tailored the model for India," the tech behemoth stated.

The information gathered could assist vulnerable groups, like young children or the elderly, in taking the proper health precautions and preventative measures, like wearing N95 masks or limiting their exposure to the outdoors.
Users can quickly access AQI in Google Maps by selecting the Air Quality layer from the Layer button on the home screen and tapping on any location on the map. By selecting the Weather widget from the Explore tab on the home screen, they can view AQI data at their present location.
