Extremely heavy rain is expected as a deep depression moves towards the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.

About 340 km south-southeast of Trincomalee, 630 km south-southeast of Nagapattinam, 750 km south-southeast of Puducherry, and 830 km south-southeast of Chennai are the locations of the depression that moved north-northwestward at a speed of 10 kmph over the last six hours over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and the nearby East Equatorial Indian Ocean.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Tuesday that it is expected to intensify into a deep depression over the next 12 hours and move almost north-northwest.

Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move north-northwestwards towards Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts during the subsequent two days.

After intensifying into deep depression, maximum sustained surface wind speed of 55-65 gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail till November 29, 2024.

Warning of Rainfall

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry: On November 26 and 27, there is a chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few isolated locations. On November 28, there is a chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few isolated locations, and on November 29, there is a chance of heavy rainfall in a few isolated locations.


South Coastal Andhra Pradesh: From November 26 to 29, there will probably be light to moderate rainfall in many areas and heavy rainfall in a few isolated areas.

Warning of Wind

Beginning on November 27, squally winds of 40–50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph are likely over nearby regions of the west central Bay of Bengal and along and off the coasts of south Andhra Pradesh.

Over the same area, it would progressively increase to 55–65 kmph with gusts up to 75 kmph.
