Up to 17,000 WhatsApp accounts have been blocked by the Ministry of Home Affairs in a massive crackdown on online scammers.
According to sources, the blocked fraud numbers came from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia.
Even with the massive increase in online payments, many people nationwide still rely on cash-only transactions that take place in physical locations. For their daily cash needs, they typically rely on banks or ATMs.
However, are you aware that there is a possibility of becoming a victim of fraud at these automated teller machines?
Don't worry; the Commissionerate Police have outlined several precautions that users can take to avoid becoming stuck at ATMs located throughout the state.
The Commissionerate Police have posted on its official X handle to advise people to take easy yet effective precautions to prevent becoming entangled in scams and losing their hard-earned money.
Avoid shoulder surfing: Keep a safe distance from people when using an ATM or entering your PIN the next time you visit one.
Keep the screen private: To make sure that no one can see your transactions, one should stand close to the ATM screen. Make good use of the privacy filters found in many contemporary ATMs.
Protect your PIN by looking for any loose or odd attachments on the keypad and card slot when you insert your card. This is due to the fact that your card information can be stolen using skimming devices.
