Odisha is expected to experience extreme cold, with temperatures sharply dropping after the western disturbance has subsided. As the western disturbances subside, more cold, dry winds will enter the state, causing the temperature to drop and the cold to rise.
According to reports, the state's nighttime temperatures have already dropped by two to three degrees Celsius in a number of areas.
“The western disturbances have moved away, allowing the cold winds to sweep in and lower the state’s temperatures significantly,” Weather expert Umashankar Das revealed. These disturbances, originating in the Mediterranean, often affect northern India during the winter months, bringing cooler temperatures and occasional rainfall.
Temperature Drop:
1. The lowest recorded temperature in Jharsuguda and the steel city of Rourkela was only 8 degrees Celsius.
2. The temperature in Keonjhar dropped to 11.2 degrees Celsius.
3. Temperatures of 13.3 and 14.1 degrees Celsius were recorded in Sambalpur and Hirakud, respectively.
4. The temperature in coastal Balasore was 14.8 degrees.
5. The temperature was 17.6 degrees Celsius in Chandbali and 18.6 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneswar, the state capital.
A warning was issued:
In order to deal with the cold, residents have been advised to take preventative measures, especially on nights when temperatures are at their lowest. The state meteorological office is still keeping a careful eye on the situation and issuing updates as needed.
