An Israeli army airstrike targets a neighborhood in Beirut

Mar Elias, a crowded neighborhood in Beirut, Lebanon, was the target of an Israeli airstrike, according to local media.

According to the Xinhua news agency, which cited local TV channel Al-Jadeed, the airstrike on Sunday night claimed two lives and injured twenty-two more.

Mahmoud Madi, the head of operations for Hezbollah on the southern front, was the target of the airstrike, according to media reports, but it is unclear what happened to him.

According to the channel, Hassan Madi, Mahmoud Madi's brother, owns Madi Technology, an electronics store that was the target of the airstrike. After the airstrike, electronic devices at the shop exploded, starting a huge fire.

Civil defence teams quickly arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire, while ambulances were dispatched to transport the injured to the hospital.

Since September 23, the Israeli army has intensified airstrikes on Lebanon in an escalation of conflict with Hezbollah.

In early October, Israel launched a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon.
