Aadhaars new features include fraud detection, voice interaction driven by AI, and multilingual support, including in Odia

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has entered into a partnership with Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI, an indigenous full-stack Generative AI (GenAI) company, to improve user experience in accessing Aadhaar services.

AI-Driven Voice-Based Interactions

Effective from March 18, the collaboration will see Sarvam AI deploying an advanced AI solution that enables voice-based interactions for Aadhaar-related services. This initiative aims to collect near real-time feedback from Aadhaar number holders regarding their enrollment and update experiences. Additionally, it will help identify instances of overcharging (if any) during these processes, ensuring greater transparency and accountability.

Real-Time Fraud Detection for Secure Transactions

The AI-driven solution will provide real-time fraud alerts to Aadhaar number holders, alerting them to any suspicious activity during authentication requests. This proactive security feature is designed to enhance trust and safety in digital identity verification.

Multilingual AI Support for Wider Reach

Recognizing India's linguistic diversity, the AI solution will initially support voice interactions and fraud detection in 10 languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, and Malayalam. UIDAI plans to expand language support further in the coming months, ensuring wider accessibility for residents across the country.

Commitment to Innovation and Data Security

UIDAI remains committed to user-centric innovation by continuously upgrading technology for a seamless Aadhaar experience. The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reinforces this commitment.

Sarvam AI has developed a customized GenAI stack that is hosted within UIDAI’s air-gapped infrastructure. Ensuring strict adherence to data sovereignty and security protocols, no user data will be transmitted outside UIDAI’s secure environment. The agreement is initially valid for one year, with a provision for a one-year extension.

Industry Collaboration for Technological Advancement

This technological advancement was made possible through UIDAI’s volunteer policy, which fosters industry collaboration. Sarvam AI’s volunteer experts worked closely with UIDAI’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru to develop and implement the GenAI solution. Ownership of the deployed solution will remain with UIDAI.
