An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 was recorded at around 6.10 am on Tuesday near Puri in Odisha, informed the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The quake occurred at a depth of 91 km with its epicentre in the Bay of Bengal, stated to be at latitude 19.52 N and longitude 88.55 E, as per a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the NCS.
Places in Odisha Where Tremors Were Felt:
Several parts of Odisha including the state capital of Bhubaneswar and coastal districts from Balasore to Paradip felt tremors early in the morning. Towns and settlements near Chandipur were reportedly jolted by strong tremors.
The intensity of the earthquake was stated to be mild since the epicentre was located in the sea. However, tremors were felt in adjoining areas of the Bay of Bengal epicentre, including West Bengal and Bangladesh.
Till the last reports came in, no casualties or damages to structures were reported. However, several morning walkers in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Paradip, and other areas of Odisha reportedly felt the tremors, which lasted for a couple of seconds.
