Thomas Dohmke, the CEO of GitHub, acknowledged that a new era in the tech sector may have already begun, but he and his organization are unconcerned about the possibility that AI will replace half of all engineering jobs.
The shocking admission comes as companies are laying off a portion of their workforce due to growing concerns and challenges faced by developers worldwide as a result of AI software automating various tasks.
Dohmke told the Economic Times that people should embrace new technologies and skills rather than fear losing their jobs. He added that people are being forced to transition to new types of jobs as a result of the shift to AI.
Furthermore, we don't fear that AI will eliminate half of engineering jobs. He told the Economic Times, "I think we're much more worried that AI has added additional skills and challenges to what a full-stack engineer has to do today."
According to Dohmke, the new areas that people need to concentrate on are prompt engineering and creating new AI tools.
