IMD forecasts heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in certain districts of Odisha due to low pressure.

A Low-Pressure area has developed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of north Odisha due to the influence of the cyclonic circulation over the northwest and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal. According to information released on Friday by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to move northwest over the next two days.

Its impact is causing increased rainfall activities in several parts of Odisha. In certain state districts, there have also been reports of significant rainfall.

In nine districts of Odisha today, the IMD issued a yellow warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Saturday. The districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh have been placed on alert for heavy to extremely heavy precipitation.

Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal districts are also expected to face significant precipitation today.

“Until June 30, 2024, squally weather with gusty surface wind speeds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of Odisha.” The IMD advised fishermen not to go out to sea off the coast of Odisha or the northwest Bay of Bengal until June 30, 2024.
