Fali S. Nariman, a renowned constitutional jurist and senior advocate, passed away here on Wednesday. He was ninety-five.
Nariman argued in a number of historic cases, such as the well-known NJAC decision. Along with numerous other cases, he was involved in the significant SC AoR Association case that resulted in the collegium system and the TMA Pai case concerning the extent of minority rights under Article 30.
In May 1972, he was named Additional Solicitor General of India.
In January 1991, Nariman received the Padma Bhushan, and in 2007 he was granted the Padma Vibhushan.
In November 1950, the seasoned attorney became a registered advocate of the Bombay High Court. He began his legal career at the Bombay High Court and continued for over 70 years, eventually moving on to the Supreme Court.

He committed his life to ensuring that regular people could access the legal system. I am deeply hurt by his demise. My sympathies are with his admirers and family. May peace be upon his soul.”
