Banwarilal Purohit, the administrator of Chandigarh and governor of Punjab, resigned from his position on Saturday, citing personal reasons.
The position had been occupied by him since August 2021. One day after Purohit met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, the resignation was announced.
“I tender my resignation from the post of Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh due to personal reasons and certain other commitments,” Purohit wrote in an official letter to President Droupadi Murmu. Please comply and accept the same.”
Following a verbal altercation over clarifications on multiple issues, Purohit and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tendered their resignations.
The three-time MP Purohit was the governor of Assam in 2017 and the governor of Tamil Nadu in 2016.
