On Monday, the five-story under-construction building at Garden Reach, on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, collapsed, leaving two people dead and multiple others injured.
Seven people have been injured in the incident, according to West Bengal Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim.
He did not, however, rule out the chance that there are still people under the rubble.
He added that 13 people were evacuated from the area by the swift action of the Disaster Management Department and the police.
After suffering a forehead injury last week, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee defied medical advice and hurried to the scene while wearing a bandage over her head.
The Chief Minister also declared financial support for the relatives of the injured and the deceased.
According to eyewitnesses, the building’s cracks first appeared on Sunday. Nevertheless, the building collapsed as the intensity of the concrete fragments falling from it increased.
