On Monday, three new criminal laws went into effect nationwide, potentially changing the legal landscape. The criminal laws from the British era were replaced by the three new ones, known as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
In accordance with the new legislation, the Laxmisagar Police Station in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, filed a case of attempted murder. A young person’s complaint about a brutal attack on his father, Gauranga Charan Das, of the Chintamaniswar temple area in the capital city, led to the registration of this initial case. On June 29, an incident occurred wherein three miscreants on two bikes were accused of using a sharp razor to silt Das’s neck.
