Recruitment of junior teachers in Odisha: HC postpones the selection process once more

The Odisha government notified the court on Wednesday that they had released a selection list of the candidates broken down by district. After hearing the case, the court requested an affidavit from the government stating whether or not the State-wide general list of chosen candidates was discarded.

“We wanted the government to stop selection from the State list and issue another district-wise list of the candidates,” petitioner Sameer Kumar Das stated in reference to the hearing. According to the government, a list of districts has been prepared. However, the government denied it, claiming that the State list is still in effect, when the court inquired as to whether or not it had been withdrawn.

We provide the Balasore district as an example, where certain candidates have been chosen for the government website but have not indicated that Balasore is their preferred location. Higher marks are the basis for their selection. However, that wasn’t supposed to be the case. The government should have selected candidates on the basis of their district preference,” Das added.

The case’s next hearing is scheduled for January 30. Until then, the government will follow the court’s temporary order to hold the selection process.

Politics have heated up over the matter in the interim. The BJD has adopted an aggressive stance on the matter, even as the Congress and the BJP are demanding the government’s head.

Abhilash Panda, the president of BJP Yuva Morcha, denounced the Odisha government, saying, “The job sale business has started in Odisha, and over the last few years it has pushed our youth’s future into darkness.” Whether through junior teacher recruitment or OPSC, “Mahal Mandas” are employed in Odisha. There have been other recruitment scams in Odisha before this one involving junior teachers. In the last three to four years, there have been so many recruitment scams that selling government jobs has become the standard in Odisha.

BJD MP Sasmit Patra refuted the BJP’s accusations, saying the party had misled the public by disseminating fake information regarding teacher hiring.

Patra shared on X, saying, “The press release from EdCIL (India) Limited, a “Miniratna” Central PSE under the Indian government, has clarified everything regarding the recruitment of junior teachers.” It is further explained in detail in the tweet from the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA). But a loose, unsigned press release from Odia has been naughtily disseminated to distort and distort the facts. Politicising and sensationalising fake news on such a delicate subject as teacher recruitment is shocking and demonstrates a mindset that will stop at nothing to further one’s political career.
