Part of the roof collapsed at the T-1 terminal of Delhi airport, leaving one person dead and six injured.

Early on Friday, in the midst of intense rain, a section of the roof of Delhi airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed on cars, including taxis. This resulted in one fatality and six injuries, according to officials. Flight departures were also suspended.

Hospitalisation of the injured was announced by K Rammohan Naidu, Minister of Civil Aviation, who said he was keeping an eye on the situation.

Three fire tenders were dispatched to Terminal-1 (T1) of the airport as soon as a call regarding the incident was received at approximately 5:30 am, according to officials from Delhi Fire Services (DFS).

In addition to the roof sheet, the support beams gave way, causing damage to the vehicles parked in the terminal’s pick-up and drop zone. They said that a search was carried out to make sure that nobody was stranded inside the damaged cars.

The injured individuals have been admitted to the airport-proximate Medanta Hospital. They added that one of the six injured had been saved from a car that had an iron beam fall on it.

The debris was being cleared, work in progress.

The shed outside Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which stretched from departure gate no. 1 to gate no. 2, collapsed around five in the morning as a result of heavy rains, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani. Four vehicles were damaged.

Six persons were hurt in the incident, and one person died. She said that every injured person is stable.

According to the DCP, teams from the Delhi Police, DFS, National Disaster Response Force, and Central Industrial Security Force are on the scene.
