On March 30, President Droupadi Murmu will award the Bharat Ratna to five distinguished individuals, including two former prime ministers and seasoned BJP leader L.K. Advani, according to sources on Thursday.
With the exception of former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, four other recipients of the Bharat Ratna—the late Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and P.V. Narasimha Rao, renowned agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, and former Chief Minister of Bihar Karpoori Thakur—will receive the award after death.
A source confirming the news stated that on March 30, they will receive the Bharat Ratna.
“Delighted to share that our former Prime Minister, PV Narasimha Rao Garu, will be honoured with the Bharat Ratna,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously posted on X. Narasimha Rao Garu was a renowned statesman and scholar who rendered significant service to India in a number of roles.
“His work as Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister, a Union Minister, and a long-serving member of the Legislative Assembly and Parliament will also be remembered. India’s economy advanced thanks in large part to his visionary leadership, which also laid a strong foundation for future prosperity and development.
“It is the good fortune of our government that former Prime Minister of the country, Chaudhary Charan Singh, is being honoured with Bharat Ratna,” PM Modi wrote on X, announcing Chaudhary Charan Singh’s honour. This honour is devoted to his unparalleled service to the nation. His entire life had been devoted to promoting the welfare and rights of farmers.”
Additionally, M.S. Swaminathan, an agricultural scientist, received the Bharat Ratna award from PM Modi.
