The Congress unit in Odisha released its manifesto on Friday, shortly after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the schedule for the 2024 general elections would be announced. The manifesto contained nine guarantees and nine promises to the people of the state.
At a press conference in Bhubaneswar, the manifesto was presented in front of state leaders, Sarat Pattnaik, the president of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), and Ajoy Kumar, the party’s state in-charge.
The Congress promised in its manifesto to complete all the tasks left undone during the 24 years of the BJD and the 9 years of the BJP’s central government. Congress stated in its manifesto that it would offer bonuses in addition to the MSP of Rs. 3,000 per quintal of paddy. In a similar vein, the farmers’ agricultural loans will be forgiven.
Additionally, the Congress assured the farmers of a pension of Rs. 2000 per month. The state would provide 200 free units of electricity to its residential customers. The Congress also pledged in its manifesto to give jobs to about 5 lakh young people and to provide a monthly unemployment benefit of Rs 3000.
In addition, the party pledged to forgive the Women Self Help Groups’ loans and give each family an LPG cylinder for Rs 500. The Congress also pledged in its manifesto to offer free health care to anyone up to Rs 15 lakh, including those who work for the government. In addition, the party pledged to pay Rs 2000 in monthly benefits to widows, old people, and Divyang.
