Nine Maoist cadres, including two women from Chhattisgarh, have surrendered their weapons in front of Odisha Police, dealing the Maoists yet another blow.
The nine Maoist cadres that have turned themselves in to the IG Police (Southern Range) in Berhampur, Boudh district, are all from Muler village in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. Senior officials have identified Yogi Madvi, also known as Jyoti, and Pozze Madvi as the two female Maoists. Jyoti became a member of the Maoist group in 2019. She served as Sila, also known as Nagmani, the active leader of the 8th company of the KKBN division in Boudh district, and her personal security guard.
In the same way, Pozze joined the Maoists in 2020 and, along with Jyoti, she made contact with Vikesh, also known as Jagdish, the DVM Commander of the KKBN division’s 8th company.
The remaining seven Maoists, who have submitted, were employed by the Maoist organisation as party members.
On Tuesday, Samaya Madkam, also known as Naresh, a Maoist Divisional Committee Member (DCM) of the KKBN Division, submitted himself in Odisha. Samaya was the division’s 8th Company’s first platoon commander at the time of surrender. Yesterday, he turned himself in to the Inspector General of Police, Southern Range, Berhampur, and Kandhamal SP.
According to senior officials, Samaya has engaged in violent acts and a number of offences against the government. He is the subject of at least 17 cases in the districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, and Nuapada. It’s possible that additional cases in the nearby state of Chhattisgarh have been filed against him.
The officials went on to say that Samaya was compelled to surrender as a result of an increase in the frequency of anti-Maoist operations in Kandhamal’s interior and numerous gunfire exchanges in the districts of Boudh and Kandhamal.
