On Monday, workers at Birla Tyres, represented by nine labour unions, began an indefinite walkout in front of the Balasore tyre division of Dalmia Bharat Refractories Limited, demanding their reinstatement and the payment of outstanding salaries.
According to reports, Dalmia Bharat Refractories Limited purchased the business following Birla Tyres’ closure in Balasore. The current staff members were optimistic that they would be hired by the new business. But the new business is supposedly hiring new employees while neglecting the existing ones. Employee resentment has been sparked by this.
The case was brought before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) when Birla Tyres became insolvent. The business was then sold for Rs 347 crore. We believed we would get our job back. On the other hand, the business had some contract employees. There are 350 contract workers employed as of right now. However, those who put in thirty years of work have been ignored,” an irate employee remarked.
“Our demand is rehabilitation of old employees on a priority basis,” declared another irate employee. If not, we would carry on with our strike indefinitely.
Another protestor echoed the same sentiment, saying, “We hope the new government will do something for us.”
The company authorities did not provide any feedback.
