The bank holiday calendar is set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in collaboration with state governments, taking into consideration official holidays, state and national holidays, cultural and religious celebrations, and operational requirements. The RBI uses official channels to distribute the complete list of bank holidays for the year, promoting cooperation and transparency amongst financial institutions.
The RBI states that there are three different kinds of bank holidays in the nation: actual time gross settlement holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays under the Act, and bank closings. Notably, regional bank holidays differ across the nation from state to state and bank to bank.
