This week, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit is being held in Astana, Kazakhstan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of SECURE—security, economic development, connectivity, unity, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and environmental protection—will determine India’s priorities, the country said on Tuesday.
The Indian delegation to the 24th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State, which takes place on Thursday, will be led by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders in attendance at the summit are anticipated to examine the organization’s accomplishments during the previous 20 years and talk about the current situation and future directions of multilateral cooperation.
There are also plans to tackle timely issues of regional and global significance during the summit.
According to PM Modi, the idea of SECURE mirrored the topic of India’s inaugural chairmanship of the SCO, which was announced on July 4, 2018, during the virtual SCO Summit that New Delhi hosted.
Under India’s chairmanship, the SCO organised more than 140 events, conferences, and meetings and developed five new pillars of cooperation: startups and innovation, traditional medicine, youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and shared Buddhist heritage.
Additionally, Iran became a new member of the SCO family during India’s leadership, and the Memorandum of Obligation for Belarus’ SCO membership was signed.
About one-third of the world’s economy and 40% of the world’s population are represented by the SCO. Consequently, it is our mutual duty to be aware of each other’s needs and sensitivities. At the 23rd SCO Summit in July of last year, Prime Minister Modi stated, “To resolve all challenges through better cooperation and coordination, and make constant efforts for the well-being of our people.”
