Chiranjib Biswal, a former MLA, has joined BJD after leaving Congress.

Senior leader Chiranjib Biswal joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday, one day after leaving the Indian National Congress. At an event held in Bhubaneswar today, Biswal joined the BJD in front of senior leaders.

The well-known Congressman Basant Kumar Biswal is the father of Biswal. Sarat Pattanayak, the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), received his letter of resignation yesterday.

As senior Congress leaders have been claiming to form government by winning 90 out of 147 assembly seats in the 2024 elections, Biswal’s departure is considered as a major setback to the party’s Odisha unit.
