Residents of Baripada finally breathed a sigh of relief when the Forest Department was able to save the leopard that had caused panic when it was seen wandering the city on Friday.
The large feline was initially observed during the morning. When people arose in response to the strange barking of stray dogs, they discovered a leopard concealed in the garden of a Bhanjapur Budhikhamari village resident. Following notification, Baripada DFO A Uma Mahesh, his employees, Dr. Samrat Gowda, the deputy director of South Similipal, and a rescue team arrived at the location.
After that, a rescue effort was started. The wild animal was first shot with a tranquillizer dart, and when it passed out, it was saved. Four hours were needed to save the leopard.
