With the passing of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, a presidential election is scheduled for June 28.

The media said that the Iranian government had decided to hold the nation’s 14th presidential election on June 28.

The report said on Monday that the election date was decided in a meeting that included the Iranian Constitutional Council and Interior Ministry representatives, Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Vice-President for Legal Affairs Mohammad Dehqan, and First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber, who is currently assuming the presidency.

The wreckage of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and some of his companions, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, was discovered on Monday morning after the aircraft crashed on Sunday in bad weather close to Varzaqan County, about 670 kilometres from Tehran.

The first Vice-President will lead the executive branch in the event that the President is unable to carry out his or her duties, as stated in Article 131 of the Iranian Constitution. Additionally, according to the Xinhua news agency, the acting president has an obligation to set up the election of a new president within a maximum of 50 days.

According to IRNA, the participants also decided on the timeline for the election procedures, which included forming executive delegations, registering candidates, and starting election campaigns.

The report stated that candidates would have to run their election campaigns from June 12 to June 27 after registering, which is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 3.

IRNA claims that the Constitutional Council first approved the schedule.
