Defending champions India dominated Thailand 11-0 in a lopsided Pool A match here on Wednesday, kicking off their men's junior Asia Cup campaign on a high note.
In addition to India and Thailand, the other teams in Pool A are South Korea, Japan, and Chinese Taipei. Pool B includes hosts Oman, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and bitter rivals Pakistan.
Sourabh Anand Kushwaha (19th, 52nd), Dilraj Singh (21st), Mukesh Toppo (59th), Arshdeep Singh (8th), Gurjot Singh (18th, 45th), and Araijeet Singh Hundal (2nd minute, 24th) all scored goals for India from field play, while Sharda Nand Tiwari (10th) scored from a penalty corner. The winners' penalty stroke was converted by Rohit (29th).
India's next match is against Japan on Thursday.
The Indians, who were strong favorites to win the championship, scored three goals in the first quarter of the competition.
Arshdeep doubled the score with a simple conversion on the rebound after Araijeet's reverse flick on the near side opened the scoring.
Later, in the tenth minute, Sharda Nand scored another goal with a strong drag-flick down the line.
The opposition goalkeeper Thawin Phomjunt made some incredible saves to keep the rivals out as the Indians kept up their relentless raids on the Thai defense.
On the opposite side, but this time on the other side of the goalie, Gurjot gave India a 4-0 victory.
A minute later, Sourabh chipped on the far side of the Thai goalkeeper to extend the lead.
