Renowned theatre personality Sachi Das has passed away; final rights were fulfilled in his hometown

On Thursday, the mortal remains of renowned theatre personality Sachhi Das were burned at the stake in his ancestral village, Anandapur, located under the Jajpur district’s Bari block.

He was ninety-one when he passed away.

Das has made a lasting impression on the theatre and film industries. He executed both acting and directing with remarkable flair in plays, operas, television series, and movies.

Even though he directed one of the most well-known opera plays, “Saguna Basichi Dena Melai,” he is also known for other plays, including “Kie Neigala Jaiphulaku,” “Painkali Bajei De,” “Bichara,” “Nila Akasha Dura Banai,” “Jane Raja Thile,” “Rati Go Tome Katha Kaha,” “Sesha Shrabana,” and “Kahani Na Janapatha,” to mention a few.

At the all-India level, his play “Abujha Rajaku Palabinda Mantri” received accolades. He has made a huge contribution to the entertainment industry. He penned thirty-three playbooks for opera and theatre. The Odisha theatre is thought to have lost something irreplaceable with his passing.

His mortal remains were first transported to Rabindra Mandap and then to the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi compound, where members of the theatre community paid their final respects, before being returned to his homeland.

Manmohan Samal, the president of the BJP state, expressed his sorrow and sent his condolences to the family members who had lost a loved one on his X handle.
