Two people perished after being struck by a train near Rayagada, Odisha.

Late on Wednesday night, a test train engine struck two men between the railway stations of Singhpur and Rayagada, resulting in their deaths.

The deceased was from Rayagada district’s Debadalguda village.

According to reports, the dead were instantly killed when a test train engine struck them close to Singhpur while they were seated on the third railway track being installed between Rayagada and Koraput.

Following their deaths, there was tension in the area as hundreds of local villagers protested there, calling for financial compensation for the families of the dead.

It is important to note that the Railway Safety Commissioner inspected the construction work on Wednesday when he visited the recently constructed railway track.

As of yet, neither the railway authorities nor the police have made any remarks in this regard.

On December 18, 2023, the body of a home guard was discovered on the tracks 50 metres from the Rayagada railway station. He was working at Rayagada SP’s residence office.

He had a cut mark on his neck, according to sources.
