Scam that doubles money: Hundreds in Nayagarh lose more than Rs 5 crore after downloading a phoney app

One of the many people who have been conned by a fraudulent app is a resident of Nayagarh. “They had promised to pay Rs 55,000 per month by depositing just Rs 5,000 and Rs 1 lakh for Rs 15, 000,” the resident claims.

With the bogus promise of double returns, hundreds of depositors in Nayagarh were defrauded of more than Rs 5 crore. ‘APM Terminals,’ a fraudulent lending app, is said to have defrauded depositors of millions of rupees.

Surprisingly, prominent lawyers, politicians, and police officers are among the depositors who were duped by the con artists’ fraudulent claims. The issue came to light after the depositors complained to the Nayagarh police about it.

In response to the complaint, authorities opened an investigation and filed a case. Two individuals have been detained in this regard following an initial investigation. They have been named as Nayagarh residents Arun Dash and Amulya Dash, both of Gayatri Colony.

“They requested a 5,000 rupee deposit from us and promised a daily return of 1,000 rupees. Additionally, they agreed to provide Rs 5,000 on holidays and special days. I trusted them and paid Rs 5,000, only to learn that the app was later erased,” claimed Chiranjibi Pradhan, the complaint.

In a similar vein, Sanjay Kumar Nayak, another depositor, stated, “A buddy of mine shared the link and encouraged me to deposit Rs 5,000 as there was an offer on Gandhi Jayanti. He told me that in addition to an additional Rs 1,000 per day, I will receive a Rs 5,000 offer for Gandhi Jayanti. I therefore logged in and added Rs 5,000.

Snehasis Sahu, SDPO Nayagarh, responded to inquiries by saying, “We have detained two people based on the complaints, and an additional investigation is ongoing. Initial reports indicate that it is bogus software that con artists use to trick individuals into making money deposits with the false promise of double returns. We now know that a number of people have lost money. We believe other regions in the state are also affected by this fraud, which is not just occurring in Nayagarh.
