Early on Friday, in the midst of intense rain, a section of the roof of Delhi airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed on cars, including taxis. This resulted in one fatality and six injuries, according to officials. Flight departures were also suspended.

In addition to the roof sheet, the support beams gave way, causing damage to the vehicles parked in the terminal’s pick-up and drop zone. They said that a search was carried out to make sure that nobody was stranded inside the damaged cars.

The injured individuals have been admitted to the airport-proximate Medanta Hospital. They added that one of the six injured had been saved from a car that had an iron beam fall on it.

The debris was being cleared, work in progress.
