NEET-UG paper leak case: Supreme Court continues legal action before multiple High Courts

On Thursday, the Supreme Court halted the ongoing legal proceedings concerning the purported NEET (UG) paper leak that were pending before several national high courts.

A Vacation Bench led by Justice Vikram Nath issued a notice regarding transfer petitions filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and ordered a stay of proceedings pending before various High Courts until the next listing date.

In the course of the hearing, the NTA’s attorney informed the Bench, which also included Justice SVN Bhatti, that High Courts were considering pleas claiming various irregularities in the NEET (UG) exam, even though the apex court had issued notice in a related transfer petition last week.

The top court issued the following order after reviewing the submission: “Issue notice, returnable on July 8, 2024.”Further proceedings before the High Court will be postponed in the interim.
On July 8, the batch of transfer petitions and additional requests for the exam to be cancelled will be heard.

On June 14, the Supreme Court had previously sent notice regarding the NTA’s request to have a petition that was pending in the Delhi High Court transferred to the highest court.

The top court agreed to review NTA’s transfer request and had requested the reply from the applicant who had filed a writ suit in the Delhi High Court, claiming that there had been a paper leak in the NEET (UG) exam.
