Israel strikes the Iranian town of Isfahan a few days after an attack by Iran

Following an attack by Israel on the Iranian town of Isfahan, Iran turned on its air defence system and halted air travel.

It occurs just a few days after Iran attacked Israel in retaliation for what is believed to have been an attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, which resulted in the deaths of seven senior members of the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps, among them General Mohammed Reza Zahedi.

Iranian semi-official Fars News Agency said that Iranian air defences had been activated over the region.

Three explosions shook the area around the Isfahan International Airport and to the east of the city.

The town of Isfahan was the target of a missile strike, according to Israeli media. It stated that on Friday morning, a number of high-ranking officials were in the Kirya military headquarters located in Tel Aviv.

Iran, however, claimed that only drone strikes had occurred instead of missile attacks.

Iranian state media said on Friday that the central province of Isfahan had been the target of multiple small flying object gunshots.

As of Friday morning, flights to Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz had been cancelled, according to the Iranian media.
