Urinary sphincter transplantation is a first for Odisha, performed by AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar has added another feather to its cap in the realm of advanced healthcare after successfully completing the difficult surgery of an infant’s intestine a few days ago.

An individual’s Artificial Urinary Sphincters (AUS) were successfully implanted in their body by the reputable tertiary care national health institution recently. The state-of-the-art service is regarded as a major development in urological care.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s Urology Department performed the intricate and sophisticated surgery with great success. In Odisha, the cutting-edge procedure is being implemented for the first time. This implant was previously limited to our nation’s major cities.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s AUS programme was run by a group of exceptionally talented urologists and surgeons who were up to date on the newest methods and utilised cutting edge equipment.

When traditional treatment options for urinary incontinence have failed, the Artificial Urinary Sphincter (AUS) implantation procedure is acknowledged as the gold standard. Patients who have undergone prostate surgery, suffered spinal cord injuries, or have other underlying conditions that impair urine control are specifically targeted for this service.

Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, congratulated the medical team on a job well done. He stated, “The Department of Urology at AIIMS Bhubaneswar has consistently been providing world class care which is at the forefront of technology and innovation.” The people of Odisha and Eastern India will now have access to artificial urinary sphincter implantation services, as they were previously required to travel to centres in other states.
