Elections in 2024: Congress is expected to declare candidates for the Assembly and Lok Sabha in Odisha on April 2.

Major political parties like the BJP, BJD, and Congress have chosen to wait and see before announcing candidates for the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Odisha ahead of the pivotal 2024 elections. Sarat Pattnayak, the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), stated on Monday that the party will soon announce its candidates in the midst of all of this.

“The Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting and screening have taken place, and the Congress will shortly declare its nominees for the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Odisha,” Pattnayak stated.

According to sources, the Congress might make the first phase list public by tomorrow night. According to reports, the CEC has received the list of candidates from the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee.

It’s unclear if the Congress will make available all of the candidates for every Assembly and Lok Sabha seat at once, or if it will happen in stages.

The Congress leaders had earlier declared that the party would make its list of candidates available by the first week of March. But the Congress strategy was delayed as a result of long-lasting political activity in the state being stoked by rumours in Odisha about a BJD-BJP alliance.

Subsequently, it became evident that the BJP and BJD would compete in the 2024 elections on their own.

It is important to note that, out of 147 and 21 constituencies, respectively, the BJD has released its list of candidates for 72 Assembly seats and 9 Lok Sabha seats.

In contrast, the BJP has declared its candidates for each of the 21 Lok Sabha seats; however, the party has not yet disclosed its choices for the 147 Assembly seats.
