On Wednesday, the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar also experienced a stormy morning with persistent rain.
Rainfall was also received by the districts of Khordha, Nayagarh, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Ganjam, and Kandhamal in addition to the Twin Cities. Yesterday’s “Kalabaisakhi” (Norwester) brought strong gusts of wind and heavy rain to many areas of Odisha, including the state capital.
Trees that had been uprooted in different locations in the Nuapada district caused significant damage. Tuesday’s Komna Lok Mahotsav in Nuapada had to be cancelled due to severe weather that caused 40 stalls and the stage to collapse. A young person employed at a brick kiln in Jhanjimunda village, under the jurisdiction of Nuapada Sadar police station, was struck by lightning and killed.
Huge trees in Dhenkanal town were uprooted by strong winds and heavy rains. Personnel from the fire department raced to the scene, chopped down, and hauled away the trees.
In Ganjam, Berhampur and the other towns in the district saw torrential rain beginning at midnight.
Nine districts are under an orange warning from the Meteorological Department today due to lightning, thunderstorms, and rain. Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir, Subarnapur, and Boudh are some of these districts.
