The first vascularized lymph node transfer procedure in Odisha is performed by SCB.

With the successful completion of Odisha’s first vascularized lymph node transfer surgery on a female patient from the Jajpur district, the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack has written history. A group of physicians at SCB’s Plastic Surgery department performed a successful rare vascularized lymph node transfer procedure.

The senior doctors stated that after 15 days of observation, the 33-year-old patient from the Jajpur district had a marked improvement in her condition. The woman had been afflicted with filariasis for a few years, according to reports. She was unable to finish her daily tasks because of her swollen leg.

The head of the concerned department advised that these surgeries were first performed in India about two years ago. This is the first time such a surgery has been performed in SCB and Odisha.

Throughout the procedure, the patient’s lymph nodes from various body parts were removed and microsurgerically implanted in the injured leg.

About 60% improvement has been seen in the patient’s condition. The recurrence rate was 100% because the affected patients had previously received symptomatic treatment. The head of the plastic surgery department stated, “We have been preparing to perform this kind of surgery for the past six months.
